A Quarter Late

The underlying idea of AQL was to create an album where all aspects of the creative process - the songwriting, recording of all instruments and mixing of all tracks - is the work of one single person. The songs are based on a selection of tunes, which I wrote over the course of the last 25 years. They embrace a variety of genres that include rock, pop, ballad, house, 80s and jazz.

Some of the lyrics felt just right in English, while others were more suited to German.

SPEED CONTROL is a fast track and kicks off the album. It reflects on how fast we are going through life and what we are missing by going too fast or too slow. It is followed by SORRY. A ballad that asks what is left to do or say if even "SORRY" starts sounding ridiculous. DON'T TELL ME is an outraged track for you to sing on someone's next attempt to tell you how to live and be "compliant". GOODBYE is all about being lost for words. Even in that very last moment. ECSTASY is an up-beat celebration of the one life we have.

BALLAD FOR THE GIRL is a love song with the remaining question, whether to be happy about the things that were or sad about the things that won't. CLOWNS talks about losing the hedonistic smile of the clowns as we "grow" up.

The three closing songs are written in German. ANGST is a very native German word. It is an angry rock song about how ANGST is being used to deprive us of our ratio and our freedom.  KURVENHUNGER is a jazzy tune that talks about how curves trump straight lines. Curves prolong your life. Scientifically proven. YEAH talks about those moments in life, where you just feel so right, that the only scale properly describing your dopamin level is YEAH!
